Something doesn’t feel right.

You just can’t quite explain what.

As an English-speaking psychotherapist in Belgium, I help adults and couples work through relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression and major life changes.

Maybe you don’t feel like yourself anymore.

Maybe you are not being heard or taken seriously.

Maybe your relationship has changed.

Maybe moving to another country has affected you more than you expected.

Maybe you are anxious or depressed or lonely.

Or maybe you simply know that something has changed, but you can’t quite put your finger on it.

As an English-speaking psychotherapist in Belgium, I help adults and couples make sense of difficulties affecting their relationships, emotional wellbeing or everyday lives.

And what now?

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing something is wrong. It’s knowing what to do with it.

You may have tried to understand it yourself, talked it through with friends and family, or simply hoped it would pass. But sometimes you need to step outside the situation for a moment — to look at what is really happening, understand what may be driving it, and see possibilities that are not obvious when you are in the middle of it. Together, we take a step back to see the bigger picture, then look more closely at what lies beneath it.

Thats where psychotherapy can help..

English speaking psychotherapy for adults, couples and young people 14 and over.

Online throughout Belgium and face-to-face in Tongeren.

“When you begin to understand what lies beneath a difficulty, you may start to see your situation differently and recognise possibilities you hadn’t considered.”

A relationship may be where the difficulty shows itself, while underneath there may be questions about trust, communication, self-worth or feeling understood.

Moving to another country can affect much more than your surroundings. It can challenge your identity, independence, relationships and sense of belonging.

Sometimes anxiety, depression or loneliness are what you notice first, while something else may be contributing to how you feel.

Understanding what is really happening can change how you see your situation and what you can do about it.

What brings people to therapy?

Sometimes you know exactly what is troubling you. Sometimes you only know something has changed.

Are you struggling in a relationship or finding it increasingly difficult to communicate?

Do you feel unheard, misunderstood or taken for granted?

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression or loneliness, or struggling with your confidence or sense of self-worth?

Has moving to another country affected your relationships, identity, independence or sense of belonging?

Are you going through a major change in your life and unsure how to adjust?

Do you find yourself repeating patterns that you understand intellectually are no longer working, yet you cannot seem to change?

Are you coping with something that is difficult to explain but increasingly difficult to ignore?

You don’t have to fit neatly into a category. If something in your life is no longer working as it should, it may be worth exploring.

Psychotherapy for Adults and Couples in Belgium

I listen carefully to what is happening to you, not only the immediate difficulty, but also your thoughts, feelings and behavioural patterns that may be shaping it.

Together, we look at what is happening, what may be contributing to it, and whether familiar patterns of thinking or responding — including non-verbal body language — are making the situation more difficult.

Understanding these patterns can change the way you see what is happening and what might be possible.

I won’t just listen and comment. I will also challenge you when I think it may help, help you see possibilities you may not have considered, and use practical tools and exercises where appropriate.

The aim is not necessarily to remove every difficulty from your life. It is to help you to understand what is troubling you and become better able to adjust and cope with it.

I offer psychotherapy in Belgium for English-speaking adults and couples, both face-to-face and online.

About Michael

I have more than 30 years of experience helping people through periods when life, relationships or circumstances have become difficult to manage.

My approach is grounded in psychological understanding, but therapy also needs to be practical. I want to understand not only what is troubling you now, but how you have come to experience the situation in the way that you do.

We can become caught up in patterns and habits without realising that we are repeating behaviours that no longer serve us.

Sometimes these patterns develop in relationships. Sometimes they affect the way we see ourselves, how we respond to difficulty, or choices we believe are available to us.

I often tell people that when you begin to understand the logic of what is happening to you, you can start to see why you respond as you do, and what you might need to change or work on.

Understanding does not solve everything by itself. But it can give you a different perspective, a clearer view of what is happening and the possibility of responding differently.

I have lived and worked in several different countries myself, so I also understand that moving between countries and cultures can involve much more than just changing your address. It can affect identity, relationships, belonging and your sense of direction.

My role is not simply to listen, and it is not to tell you how to live your life. I listen carefully, ask questions, challenge you when I think it might be useful, and work with you to find practical ways of dealing with what brought you to therapy.
